Biography
Jeremy Hiniker is a classical guitarist and educator from the great state of Minnesota. Fueled by his love of the instrument and a desire to share it, he is determined to carve out a legacy as he advocates for awareness, appreciation, and education for the classical guitar and its vast repertoire.
Throughout his career, Jeremy has had a strong passion for teaching and developing talent. He has enjoyed teaching private lessons and group guitar classes, guitar history courses, as well as family music classes. He took that passion one step further in 2021 through the creation of his own music school, Anthem Academy of Music (AAM) in Bloomington, MN. It provides the highest quality lessons through an approach that focuses on developing fundamentals, technique, and musicianship while developing a creative voice. AAM believes that everyone is capable of learning to play an instrument if they are given a positive learning environment that motivates and inspires.
As if starting a school wasn’t enough, Jeremy set out to create a better methodology for his students. After working with several of the common guitar method books and experiencing similar drawbacks and disconnections, he began work on Guitar Foundations. This method book offers a carefully constructed pedagogical and progressive approach to learning music fundamentals and classical guitar technique with simple exercises and refreshing original compositions for developing each level’s goal.
Aside from his teaching pursuits, Jeremy also is an avid performer across Minnesota and Wisconsin, performing solo and chamber music concerts as well as weddings, private events and even yoga classes. These performances serve his mission of advocacy by introducing more people to the beauty of classical guitar; a mission he began as a major partner in the Milwaukee Classical Guitar Society’s “Guitar Ambassador” program by performing and presenting in schools throughout Milwaukee.
Jeremy holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota, Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and an Associate of Fine Arts from Normandale Community College. He has been fortunate to study with many gifted guitarists including world-renowned guitar virtuoso and pedagogue Rene Izquierdo, and Minneapolis Guitar Quartet members Wade Oden and Maja Radovanlija.
